:clapping:

You do realize those two sentences are contradictory, right?

He might be under no LEGAL obligation, but he ABSOLUTELY has an ethical and moral obligation. Which are the ones that determine what kind of guy he really is.

Will is right here. Period. Full stop. End of story.

How is that?
When I go to the gas station, i always swipe the card because I hate dealing with waiting in line for 10 minutes to deal with a disgruntled employee who thinks that I care that they haven't had a cigarette in hours and need a break.
So if, at the pump, it charges me wrong...i should go OUT of my way to pay them back?
My times worth about 20 bucks an hour to me honestly...my free time even more. And time dealing with these asshats about 100$ an hour...it kinda works out in the end.
I'm the most honest guy you could meet. Give me a dollar too much change and i'll give it back.
But I won't go OUT of my way to fix your mistake.

It's Karma...comes around...goes around...if you give it back you'll probably win the lottery and have enough forever...if you don't...well...you will probably find yourself in a postion where you lose the same amount you gained...or more...

i wish it really worked that way. when the bank lady gave me an extra $50 bill, after she counted wrong 3 times, i told her and gave it back. when the guy at autozone gave me change for $100 when i payed with a 50 and a 20, i turned around and gave him the money back. he even told me "nooo... you gave me two 50's" wheres my lotto winnings?? :dntknw:

sorry man,
I dont think youre gonna get it

Not too long ago we had a place that set the decimal wrong at the end of the night for their gas pumps. They were one of those places that leaves the pumps on at night for credit card customers. One person found out and an hour or two after that the place was PACKED, even the local news was there! Needless to say the next day when the owner of the gas station found out he re-entered all of the values for the sale amounts on everyone's card purchase so that when the final charges were taken it reflected what they should have paid since the overhead sign clearly read the proper price that they were supposed to pay. I am guessing that it was the right thing to do but i'm wondering how many people came in and complained when he did it.

So let me get this straight, you walk into a store and find a product that normally sells for 10.00 anywhere in the country. If they have it marked down to 4.00 you going to offer them the full price of 10.00 just so you feel better?

The price on the pump was the price i paid. I just thought the fuel was on "clearance"

And about the karma, your right what goes around comes around. They have been screwing me for a LONG time so i could finally screw them back. Thats the way i see it.

All rigth I have to agree with that one. although at 34 cents how big is your wifes tank? 11$ / .39 = 28 gallon fuel tank. WOW!

but if it was a big company like shell or something I wouldn't worry but smaller local shops I would correct them. Everything else I will report back unless its a gas station (never got a discount on gas yet though.)

Guy got lucky. Give him a brake. I would have done the same. Yes, I know I'm scum.

At least I haven't resorted to public beheadings of big oil execs yet...

Just remember what goes around comes around.
It will catch up with you one way or another.

You should have corrected the mistake... what you did reflects what type of character you are and I wouldn't want to do business with you.

In my business errors at the till happen quite often, some we catch and phone the customer and inform them of the error.

Some errors are in our favor and some our not but this developes a trust and mutual respect for the customer and business.

Indeed I was refering to legal obligation. Note that I did say that Will is right about being morally/ethically obligated to correct the mistake.

In the end it boils down to, Do we screw them like they screw us? Or do we do the right thing and correct their lapse in intelligence?

The answer is probably quite varied.

No legal obligation to make it right but I would have. I've recieved too much change on several occasions and always let the person know. Now, if I go to a store and go to buy something and they ring it up for more than it was listed on the shelf because someone forgot to re-label something, I'm not going to pay the the higher price and always pay the advertised price.

Wow, you really will bend over backwards to rationalize this, won't you?

If the pump was INTENTIONALLY marked down, sure it's fine to accept it. But it was very obviously a mistake, and your claim that you thought it was on clearance is a bald-faced lie and exposes some very serious character issues.

Gas stations work on razor thin margins. THEY are not ripping you off.

You stole by omission. Accept that for what it is. Rationalization the crime is FAR worse than the crime itself.
