hi everyone i have a 1984 ranger i am planning on getting ready to lift and i am trying to figure out what all i will need to do to clear anything from a 35 to a 38 inch tire under the truck for on the trail not much flexing and stuffing mostly flat and mud. i was thinking about an 8in skyjacker kit until i saw the price. a wheeling buddy of mine has a b2 on 36in irock with lik a 3in suspension and 3in bl along with 2 inches of fender cut out i want to go a little bigger with out much trimming and suggestions and what all do i need to upgrade the truck is gonna be mostly for the trail but its a dual purpose rig.

I have a 84 with a 4" suspension and a 2" BL. I have some fender trimming(rear) and fiberglass(front). I run 35" BOGGER's.

hey nice truck how much of the fenders did you have to trim out?

I did it in steps over the years. Its around 2 or 3" I believe. It would be less with a 6" suspension and 3"BL though. You may even clear without any trimming then. I wheel it pretty hard so I need all the clearance I can get, while keeping the COG lower.....

i am trying to keep my cog as low as i can to a point cause we got some nice trails around the mud but want it to clear the tires i am thinking of doing a 6in lift and trimming the fenders to open them up more like a 92 or so. i may go with 37 or 38 later on. the truck is 302 powered

I have maybe just a bit over 5" total lift running 35s, fenders are trimmed to about halfway up the factory flare.

If you go 3-4" on the suspension + 2" bodylift and trimming, I think 36s (maybe even 37s) would fit fine, even with a good flexible suspension setup. You might just need to shim the front axle forward an inch or so at the RA bushings to keep the tires off of the firewall when the tire gets stuffed into the fender.

And do stay away from any lifts over 6" (4" if you want to run a good set of coils on it). The steering becomes much more difficult to deal with the higher you go (major fab work will be needed on a custom linkage).

Hope that helps

yeah i am going to go ahead and just buy or piece together a 5.5in lift and go from there i am going with some swamper tsl q78-15lt they are a 35.5x10.5 i will post somepics after everything is installed
