Been a while since i have hung out around here.

But, i got a 89 Ranger 4wd with a crattered 2.9 in it. Been sitting that way for ~5 years now.

I've always told myself that whenever i decide to swap engines, it woud be a v8. So, i came across a 351W out of an old Ford Van. I ain't got to look at it yet since it came out of the van, but i heard it run while in the van. pretty good motor from what i can tell.

But, for some reason i remember someone talking about using motor mounts out of a certain year model Mustang Convertible and swapping them side to side. I browsed the tech library, and didn't really see anything. So maybe i have just made this up?

I'm planning on using a manual transmission. ain't decided which one. Definately a granny 4 speed and probably try to mount a np205 to it.

But i am gonna try and go look at the motor tomorrow if i can.

But any insight would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, is 351Ranger still here? i remember him always giving good advice on this topic.

Mount it just like any info you would find for installing a 302. The only exterior physical difference is the taller deck. You can use stang mounts if you want, or 2.9L lowers and make adapters, whatever you want really. The trans you are thinking of can be one of three, NP435, T18 or T19, all decent choices. The NP205 is a nice fit as well. Being a 4x4 you are going to have a tough time with exhaust. You can find manifolds in the junkyard that will work or do what I did cut up a brand new set of long tube headers, make new tubes to make them fit and weld them back together. It can be done. It depends on your skill and how much you want to spend.
