Just like the title says im planin on doin a 351w swap into my 85, just for the simple fact that not to many people have 351's in their rangers. and a 5.0 is just to easy. so my question is. what tranny, and transfer case would yall reckomend for this swap.

Its not really any more difficult than a 302 swap. I would imagine you would be using a carb as well. The main area of concern is the exhaust manifolds/headers due to the difference in deck height. Everything else will mount up the same as a 302. You can use whatever trans and t-case as if it were a 302 swap as well. For autos: the C4, C6 and AOD are usual choices. For a manual you can use a T18, T19, NP435, M5OD-R2 ( wouldn't suggest that with a 351) or a ZF 5 speed. For a t-case the NP205 or 208 will fit the best between ranger frame rails.

well the 351 is in a bronco II rite now. so the mounts, headers, stuff like that i will take of the bronco. but its a 2wd bronco so no t-case. but it has a auto trans and im not really to big on the whole auto in a 4wd thing. i like choosing the gear im in. what vehicle does the NP205 come out of. i know a lot about moters building them stuff like that, but trannys and t-cases im almost totally lost on. so forgive me if i ask a stupid question. also a zf 5 speed. again what vehicle did that come out of? o yea, this aint exactly gonna be a stock 351, hehehe. imma bore it and stroke it to a 408. hehe. (there is a 84 ranger around were i live on 44's with a 289 and 4.56's and he think he is the sh*t. so yea i plan on showin him that hes not) thanks for ur help.

The good ol'ZF can be found in 1980's to 2003 f150's to the f350 with the 300 I-6, 302 and the 351. Look for the PTO cover to know you found a real ZF.
Dont use the fullsize trucks T-case. You will run into clearance issues with your frame rail.
Dana series t-cases, and the good ol' atlas are the way to go here.
NP205's are everywhere. Just swing by a wrecking yard and ask for a ford version. Make certain you have the correct input spline count.
