dropping a 351w into my 87 stx ranger. any tips? the only reason i stand a chance at this challenge is because some friends are going to help, but im trying to learn as much as i can, so any insight would be supremely appreciated.

Im doing the same thing when I redeploy so depending on when u actally do ur swap, i can give u some info on what i did.

summit racing sells the dual sump oil pan for the 351w motor, and any 302 engine mounts should work, so the flat plate on 4.0 mouts, mustang mounts, etc.

now im not sure on headers/manifolds that work, both sides i think are pretty tight

heres my ranger too

Looks great so far. If you get the proper pan and oil pickup, the rest is simple fab work. Just get a 90* oil filter adapter and some motor mounts and you'll be golden. Order some tri-y's and cut and weld as necessary. The rest of the goodies you need are listed in the stickies and tech pages.

i read somewhere that early 70's mavrick headers will work.... anybody know?

You can pick through the junkyard for manifolds, that about the only thing you can do. For a 4x4 there are no headers that fit without major mods. It no harder than a 302 swap other than the exhaust really.
