351W ready still got tranny qs

i have a carbed 351w ready to drop in minus headers but i was wondering if there was any other 5spd tranny to use other then the zf that thing is huge and expensive if i have to i will use it but just seein if there is anything else out there that will hold up to the new motor
 
How built up is the motor? Not many options out there for a manual 4x4 swap in the first place. What do you have planned for the x-fer case? Lots more options out there for that.

Here's the list: M5OD R2 (not recommended for performance applications)
Warner T18
ZF (pricey but strong)
Warner T10 toploader
T5 World Class (Z spec recommended)
Tremec TKO, T45
That about covers the manual gearboxes that will bolt up to a Windsor. Hope that helps.
 
Really that is the only decent choice for a 5 speed. The Mazda M5OD-R2 will bolt up but once you get to beating on it you'll probably kill it. It was never offered from the factort behind the 351. If you are set on a manual your next best choice is one of these three 4 speeds; NP435, T18 or T19. Each are pretty good transmissions and they will accept a fullsize t-case just like the ZF or the M5. The two best fullsize t-case choices will be the NP205 or the 208. Either are fine behind some mild horsepower but if your plans include a stroker or a power adder the 205 is the best choice.

What would you need to bolt a T45 to a 351 or a 302? "google" says its not possible.
 
T45 was used behind the mod motors, different bellhousing bolt pattern.
 
the starter woult be the ass biter with the 45....



a modded block plate and crank spacer could be a good way to adapt it cost effectively.

Exactly. In fact it's actually less reliable. Reverse tends to go out often on these.

To the OP, how high of an output are you planning?
 
a pile of r2's would be the easy route.....cheap and easy....but weaker then a hp clutch.


big torque requires big money if you want overdrive.
