OK So I have an 84 Ranger and tomorrow I am buying a running, driving, 80 f-150 with a 351W c4 and a np205 for $675. I want to transplant everything into the Ranger including the axles. However, I want the exhaust to be stacks right behind the cab. I want to incorpate them into the triple double roll bar I am going to make. The exhaust will be the center main bar with a mild turnout at the top, everything else will follow the contours on the roll bar. First off what kind of headers or manifolds am I going to need for the 351W swap, and second, am I going to have room to put in mufflers before the exhaust turns up to exit the bed. I know people have put stacks on Rangers, and I assume they have done it with a 351W, but I don't really want straight pipes that are going to go right behind my head. I also only plane on the stacks/rollbar being 2" o.d. so I don't exactly have room to throw anything in it once it reaches the begining of the bed. It will be true dual exhaust and no crossovers or anything, and I don't even really care about installing a cat. All I would basically have room for is a collector almost mounted directly to the muffler and then exiting right before the exhaust turns up through the bed. I reckon I can put the mufflers outside of the frame rails seeing as how I am going to make some rock sliders anyway, they can also help protect the muffler, but is there room for them to get over the frame rail between the motor and the bed? This would allow more room for the c-4 and np205 between the frame. Is this possible? Or should I say practical? I have had the idea in my head for a few years now, ever since I blew the 2.8 in the truck 3 and a half years ago. The body is still straight on it and it is lifted enough that I have 36's. The lift is a combination suspension/body lift, with a little fender trimming too. But back to my original questions. Which headers/manifolds do I need and can I fit a muffler in on either side before the exhaust stacks, and if so, which should I go for?
