I have a crate motor out of a 86 ford 3/4 ton. I'm not sure but some places list them as a 351 H.O. How can you tell if it is an H.O. or not?

That's not what a 351 HO is... it was an option in the mid 80's trucks. It's basically a 351W truck motor with a marine cam and 4 barrel holley.

A mid-80's 351 W HO will externally have a cast iron square bore intake (with 4 round holes, not a large square hole), and a factory Holley 4V carb, there are no adjustments on the carb they are all plugged off. Internally, the cam is different (I don't know about a marine cam, but it definetly is a RV/torque-style cam) and the timing chain is a double roller. I don't think casting numbers will tell you anything, but it's worth a shot to use them to check.
