After drag racing for about 20 years I've seen SBC's make a lot of power- for a little while before they leave their guts on the track and everyone stands around in the staging lanes while they mop up the oil.

SBC's are the reason why engine diapers exist.. they're tough to keep fluids in lol. The only thing they had going for them was incredibly inexpensive cubes/power compared to Mopar or Ford stuff.. now we have the LS which more or less makes earlier gens totally obsolete. Who would've known that a manufacturer hiring some race motor engineers to design them a motor wouldve been such a good idea..

If you can find one that is too long they are a lot cheaper to shorten. I think mine was like $160.

I'd put it in the bed for ballast myself. Seriously though, mixing brands will complicate the build and the rear distributor will require firewall modification or locating the engine further ahead.

I've used a hammer before I've got 'er covered.
