i am about to buy some new TOYO Open Countrys MTs but i am not sure if 35 inch tires on 3.73s would be a good idea or would 33's tires be a better idea?. it a 94 4.0L 5-speed.

i think with the 33's it would real doggy, whats your current tire size?

Personally I wouldn't want to go over 31s. You really need at least 4.56s for 33s and 4.88s for 35s.

33's put a hurt on a strong 4.0L with 3.73's so I vote no 35's.....

I think 33's would be about the limit. I'd use 33's, but not 35's.

You could probably do it with an automatic, but you'd be putting alot more wear on it than you should be.

I was on 31s with stock gearing of 3.46, but it was stupid! Why have meaty tires if you cant USE them?

I have 33s with 3.73s and my 4.0/5 speed turns them effortlessly.

This combo is tons stronger than the original 2.9/5speed with 235/75s (same gears).

I'm running an Explorer computer though.

i think i will stick with the 33's and i might go to 4.56 gears in the spring but the 35's were more or less of an idea but thanks for all the input everyone

I have ran that combo; I ran it for 2 miles. One of those 2 miles was on my way somewhere and the other was on my way home to get another vehicle.

I ran 4.56's and 35's in my '97 Ranger and it was excellent. Granted, I never took it off road, just in snow, but i got a consistant 19mpg on the highway and 17 in the city with a 9" lifted truck. I also had a manual transmission too.

iam running 33s with 3.73s an a 4.0 5spd an i wheel it.. truck turns them just great.. 4.10s would be better but i happened to regear to 3.73s from 3.27s an 235s to 31s to 33s..

ya when i had my '96 i was running 33's with 3.73's and really didn't have any problems turning them in the snow or anything else with that setup, i also was running the 5speed

I did 3.73's with 33's for a year and half. You get used to it and it aint that bad.....until you hop in a stock truck or something geared properly and it just spanks your truck. I'd run 33's with 3.73's for a while, then when you wanna move up to 35's do 4.88's. I'd regret doing 4.56's and 35's if I wasn't goin diesel.
