3.0 4.88 gears?

if you wanted to put 4.88 gears in a 2001 ford ranger would they fit in the stock housing or would you have to make a lot of chages to the axel and casing?

You have to find out what type of axle you have. It should tell you on your door id tag. If not take your vin number to ford and they can run it and find out. I think its a 7.5" axle. You can buy gears specific to that axle.

I have 285/75's on mine; witch is about 33.8x11"according to Less Schwab.Almost 34" and I can kinda break em loose on dry pavement. I have 4.10's. The power loss is not too significant. At least with my truck, I don't know what gears you have. I imagine you will loose a good bit of snap off the line with that much rubber though. I'de consider re-gearing if you don't want to drive a pig.
