hey guys i have a 1989 ranger with the 2.9l v6. last year i intalled a dana 44 and ford 9" with a custom suspention lift, radius arm front and 4 link rear suspention. my next step is gearing and tires. i was wondering if the little v6 will be able to spin 35x16 boggers with 5.38 gearing in the axles with both front and rear welded diffs. my plan is to eventually get a 302 into her but thats a couple years from now ????

If it's not a daily driver, which by the boggers I'm guessing it's not, then more gear can't hurt. Lots of mud guys say you can over gear a truck for mud....but I ask if they ever use Hi range and they get a dumb look on their face. 4.88's would be sufficient to push the truck around on the street, but I'd go lower if your looking to play in the mud all day long. I have a 4.0L and 4.56's and it's just enough gear for daily use and is a lil high geared for mudbog use....
