I am looking into building a 331 stroker from a 91 crown vic motor and converting it to the HO. I need a little assistance on the planning before I spend the $ on the stroker kit. I plan on putting E7 heads on so i would like to know what style of piston I will need from the scat stroker kit to prevent any valve clearance issues. I would like to be able to upgrade to a better cam/heads later on (not in the budget right now).

Also, does anyone have any preferance on scat vs. eagle stroker kits?

I've heard that the HO and non-HO versions have a different firing order... I'm not a Ford V-8 expert so someone else might wanna jump in here...

Yeah I know the firing order is different. That doesn't bother me.

The HO and NON-HO,s use the same block and crank so with that being said if you are going to do a stroker it wont matter as the Crank, Rods, Pistons will be changed out anyways. As far as which kit is better is what ever you want as they are both made overseas unless you buy 4340 steel crank & rods from them.Scat has been around alot longer then Eagle and I have used their parts in the past with great luck and I know some people that are using Eagle stuff with great luck also. The firing order is dependent on which camshaft you use.
351w & 5.0HO are the same= 13726548
Non HO's and older 302= 15426378

Thanks for the help so far. Does anyone know the piston that I should order to prevent any valve clearance issues? (Dome, Dish, or Flat)

As long as the cam and firing order match the engine will work. So I would assume it is feesible to convert to HO. I once used a 289 cam in a 351. I had to use the 289 firing order, but the engine ran great.

edit: this may however affect which computer you use, although I'm not sure

Firing order is a non-issue, no problem. What's missing is what cam and heads are you going to be using in the future? Deside on how wild or mild. Most stock Mustangs will work with up to .530 lift on the cam. Best to consult with whom ever you get the stroker kit from. Money might be a problem but I'd sure save up and only do it once.

Any of the 331 stroker kits you choose will work with E7 heads. That's a non issue.

Almost every aftermarket head will do, it's all about where you want the powerband to be.
