302 swap

ive got a 94 ranger with a 2.3L 4x4, and lifted 3 inches. planning on swapping in a 302 out of a 84 mustang. Ive been looking into doing this for a long time and finally ready to start getting things ready. Mainly looking for opinions of if the 84' 302 is a good option or should i look for a newer motor?

its purely subjective as to goals and wallet size.


i would pass and go for a later explorer 302 if this 84 is pure stock. in a 4x4 a 351 is liklely best bang for buck if all you want to do is bolt and go...find a 96 low mile engine or later explorer 302 is likely the best value.


otherwise if its a low mile unit and you have the desire, a h.c.i. combo will make it a good power swap.

I'm buying a 99 explorer tomorrow maybe. Have to go check it out. They say easiest is exact year explorer/ranger combo.
