302 swap help

heres another quick question. i just got a gt40p intake and heads from the junkyard and now im looking at the lower intake and theres a big hole in the back on the top and i cant remember what goes there. any ideas? ill figure out how to post pics if no one knows by the description.

You mean this hole? Where the red arrow is pointing?

As Ranger SVT said, that is the PCV valve that must be hooked up to a vacuum port to suck out the crankcase fumes.

On mine, the brake booster and the PCV are vacuum and the valve covers are hooked up to the throttle body. The throttle body pushes fresh air into the crankcase and the PCV sucks out the bad air back into the intake.

It's kinda confusing at first, but I did some asking around and researching and found out what goes where.

thanks for the info
now that i know its the pcv i can work on finding the parts

anyone out there have a oil level sensor hooked up? if so can you let me know what type of connector i should be looking for on the harness to see if it has it or not

If you haven't found it yet, it should be on the same harness as the O2 sensors.

well thats good to know so i can look when i get that part of the harness
thanks

It should be called the H.E.G.O harness, a diagram from Ford Racing shows the O2 sensors and the oil level sensor on the same harness.

This was also the case when I bought a new, aftermarket one off e-bay. That may be your best bet to just get one off e-bay, they run $80, but it's all brand new.

just picked up the heads (GT40P) from the machine shop yesterday and they told me the springs are really strong for being stock, although i was planning on replacing them since im getting a bigger cam. but now im thinking maybe i can use the stock ones. anyone know if i can use a cam w/ specs of: 211/219 @.050 and .541/.549. and i think the stock would be: 194/204 @.050 and .424/.428

another thing that i just started thinking is whether or not i should run speed density or mass air. i had a speed density harness and still have the computer but i sent the harness back for replacement and it must have got lost in the mail. now im looking around for a new one and im starting to second guess due to lack of options for modifications. im looking for 300 to 350 hp and the best gas mileage i can out of it. please let me know what you think.

Mass air, hands down, there are so many upgrades and so many compatable components when going the Mass Air route, a lot easier to tune as well:icon_thumby:

and then im thinkin run an A9L computer? since im planning on runnin a T5 trans

That's a pretty big cam for stock springs.

The A9L would be a perfect comp to run your setup, this is the same comp I had in my mustang, but I had a stage 3 chip piggybacked on it, and its going to find its new home in my lowrider ranger soon....

thanks for the info. i think i know what all i need to get the engine done.

The stockers are going to bind at anything over .520 lift. You will have to swap em for that cam. And your stock cam specs don't jive with any of the stock rollers.

those are the only numbers i could find for the explorer. but you told me exactly what i was looking for
thanks

The Explorer cam's specs are 256/266* Advertised duration, lift is .422/.445 with 1.6 rockers. Run it with 1.7 rockers and it goes up to .445/.473. LSA is 116*
