302 swap help

Now, why didn't I think of that!? That's pretty cool!

I'm sure the $600,000 CNC burn table at work can hack out one of these for me..................................

That's what makes a guy/gal a hot-rodder, come up against a problem and design/work around it.

my next question since i was last on the p heads, should i run the intake too or should i stick w/ the ho intake. and how much of a difference will it make either way.
also thanks for everything so far, i got lots of things brewin in my head to get this done and everything thats been posted is helpin out. just cant wait to get the motor back from the machine shop so i can start puttin it together

definately use the Explorer intake..its a GT40 derivitive worth 20hp

its there any problem w/ compatibility since im running speed density. i think i read somewhere that some of the intakes are missing the spot for a sensor. cant remember what tho

i know i have to get the axle, but is there anything special i have to do for a driveshaft?

You do NOT have to swap the rearend to an 8.8. If you're going to subject the 7.5 to frequent abuse at the drag strip, the 7.5 will do OK for now. The 8.8 can go in later.

another thing i just ran into is w/ the oil pan. im planning on getting a new one and the question is does it matter if it has the oil level sensor or not. the pan i have has it and the harness is from a different vehicle and i dont know if it has the plug for it or not. so basically, will it affect anything if i get rid of the oil level sensor since it will save me money?

No, as long as your new harness does not have that sensor. If it does, you can always cut and weld the sensor bung into the new oil pan

My truck doesn't have an oil sensor light, so it made that decision simple, lol!

I beleive I do have the sensor in the pan, though. Don't quite remember, as I had two diffent pans...

anyone out there have a oil level sensor hooked up? if so can you let me know what type of connector i should be looking for on the harness to see if it has it or not

Yeah with 300-350 horse power? If ur not gonna abouse it with that power why make it :-):icon_thumby:

It's about the size of a 2" long pencil.

Horsepower output has no bearing on how long the rearend will hold up. It's the sudden application of torque that breaks things in a driveline. My 7.5 lasted a year or more before it started leaking from the stresses I subjected it to. Many others here have done likewise. Doing the rear at the same time as the engine swap only complicates things needlessly. If you have the rear already, fine do it. But don't st there and tell someone they HAVE to upgrade the rear at the same time as the motor swap. That's simply not necessary.

heres another quick question. i just got a gt40p intake and heads from the junkyard and now im looking at the lower intake and theres a big hole in the back on the top and i cant remember what goes there. any ideas? ill figure out how to post pics if no one knows by the description.

Sounds like vacuum port...
