Anyone know how to get the factory speedometer working with a 302 ranger swap? Mine is a 97 ranger with a 302, T5, and wiring harness from an 89 GT 5.0 mustang. I hooked all the wires up correctly and still I have no speedometer or factory Temp gauge. Thanks.

I clicked in here planning to give you one response. but I then realized that you have a 1997 obdII truck, this changes everything.

IIRC the OBDII speedo used a VSS that created a hall-effect sine-wave that was interpreted by the ecm into a signal that the speedo then reflected as a speed. I take it that you yanked the entire OBDII stuff out? You would have been money ahead using the engine from a 1989 mustang, but the engine management from an OBDII 5.0 explorer.

Dakota Digital makes a few different speedometer interfaces.

Not sure why the temp gauge wouldn't work, with key on unhook the 1 wire on the sending unit, gauge should go all the way up or all the way down.
Then ground that 1 wire, gauge should do the opposite, go all the way up or all the way down.
If this doesn't happen then wire is not connected to gauge, or gauge has no power.

If gauge does move as it should then remove sender and make sure threads are clean, NO TAPE!
If it had a good ground on the threads replace sender

Exactly what wires did you pull out? 95-97 don't rely on the ECU for speedometer readings...

Thanks for the responses guys. Ranger SVT, I actually bought a custom done harness from someone on a forum to run the truck. I couldn't figure out the wiring. Maybe something in the harness isn't wired right. Ron D, I'll try your advice. Thanks again.
