I was wondering what everybody used for motor mounts, I have heard that ford makes a template so you can use mustang mounts and the template shows you where to drill the holes. Id really like to stay as cheap as possible so any stock mustang mount would be good because i work at a parts store an get a discount. i also used the search thingy and after an hour of reading i coouldnt find anything. btw is a 90 2wd ranger.

thanks
jon

A template from Ford? Hmmm. Don't recall one. Maybe the plates off of an Explorer.

Mid-'80s Convertible Mustang mounts swapped Left-to-Right, and Right-to Left.

Searched? And couldn't find...?! Unbelieveable! Do a search on "vert mounts"-(Mustang convertible 5.0L engine mounts) .
Read - and check out the links at the Tech Library
This is a great website, but don't restrict yourself when you're looking for info. TRS = 4X4, and RPS = HP (as in Street/Strip) ---- in my opinion. But, obviously, if you're doing a V8 conversion, they overlap.

(on RPS)
5.0L Block Mount Dimensions
V-6 Motor Mounts

I'll let you take it from here. Don't look at my avatar on RPS!

Your kind of fresh to TRS to be making opinions and assumptions about what this websites about.

Wade is a good guy, he's just trying to steer him in the right direction and get him the most information as possible. He's been around, leave him alone. And IMO, he is right - This is a 4x4 oriented site.

What I like the most about TRS is the very knowledgeable technical advisers.

Pete

Oh,
And he does link to TRS from RPS, too. It's all about the information.

Oops.. I saw the Icon and thought it was Mjones. I need to start looking at names. My mistake, and sorry Wade.

Although I haven't been, I feel like I was here before "Eve ate the apple", creating the website holicaust and causing my counter to be reset.
Whether fresh or rotten -- we've all got opinions. Even Mjones (who ever he is?)
T'anks Koda. We'll keep pluggin' away.

He's an extremely opinionated person that literally stalked me on a couple threads. Every once in a while he gives good information, but for the most part I think he just posts to argue.

I think hes currently banned.

how come the tech section blueprint thingy dosent have dimensions for where the plate bolst up to the motor mounts, im using 2.9 mounts does anybody know the deminisions of thoes?

It's not there because we've all installed ours where things fit where we wanted them to be. Most bolt em down directly to the crossmember, no plate involved here with the stock Stang mounts. To accurately postion the mounts, you must install the whole engine/transmission assembly with the mounts bolted to the engine. Then lower it in place, position it where everything fits and lines up (transmission tail aligned to the rear pinion) then mark the crossmember where the mount stud contacts the member. Raise the engine (pulled it back out in my case to make room to work) Cut a vertical slot for the stud. Lowered the engine back in. Bolted the mounts to the frame. Removed the engine off the mounts, then drilled two extra 3/8" holes thru the mounts and member to install extra mount bolts. When I pull the engine, I leave the mounts in place. Engine to mount fasteners are Four 7/16" X 2" studs and lock nuts. These are easier to stab thru the mount holes than using the stock mount bolts (layin on your back, using a prybar and trying to stab the bolts sucks)

What "baddad457" said. -- If you're gonna use mid to late '80s Vert Mounts. Proabably the simplest way to go.
If you're hard headed (like me) and insist on making your own mount plates to use with 4.0L mounts -- read the links I posted above in post #2.

What you are asking for, is in one of those links! :icon_thumby:
