So i need help i got a 89 Ranger with a 302HO and i need to know a cost effective way to get a radiator in , the one that was in it was whipped and way old so i went and got a 94 ranger supercooling rad. and went to the extent to push it back got hex head bolts and spent all my money 2 finish my truck, first test run put front of water pump right through the rad. fml. so im rather good with welding and fabing, between my father and I, what rad should i use? thanks

i would use summit unit, choose the size you want and mod the core support and upper rails to accomodate it and run a taurus fan.

and unless that 302 is 12.5 to 1 and a stroker i would consider a lil more appropriate exaust

this can give you an idea....

I am running a bronco II radiator in my 90 model Ranger w/ a 5.0 HO and it cools good and mounts in like it's factory. There isn't a ton of clearance but it's lasted well over a year so far with no problems. Looks like you are running about the sam set up as me. I have a 87 block w/ a 303 cam, streat avenger intake, 4150 carb, ported heads, and hooker super comp long tubes ran out to a set off glass packs for now with an 8.8 w/ 3.73 gears. It's an auto w/ a shift kit and a tci stall converter and it does better than my old 355 s10 did.

if your not wheelin it that will work well. if your gonna wheel it though it will always cause issues at the worst possible time.

i bust an awfull lot of engine mounts ect....radiator clearance on a 4x4 needs room for the unforseen last ditch desperation beatings.

depends on budget i guess, the 94 up type 4.6 cooling setups from cougars works real nice if your willing to mod the support. quite a few of those i seen done under 60 bux with junkyard parts.

my main driving factor for core mods is to open up more air flow potential.

I had a similar setup. My solution was to trim the lower radiator support(the sheetmetal)away between the framerails, leaving just the front sheetmetal.I then took a griffin 26" aluminum rad from summit and tucked it under the top support, resting it on some rubber pads i made from sanding blocks and bolted to a 1" square rail bolted to the frame across the bottom. This blocks the filler neck but an inline neck cures it.I had room for a big flexfan and this combo survived many a bracket race.

Core supports are slightly different, but I cut the bottom of my core support out and made a new mount out of angle iron that bolts to the frame. It's tuck back in as far as it can go. Can't remember what the measurement was between w/p and e-fan, but it wasn't much when done. Heads are real close to my firewall even, it's about as far back as it's going to go. Couldn't fit my e-fan (Zegro cool) from my 2.9L, so I went with a flex until I either get a different FEAD or slimmer fan. If it works good enough, I will probably just leave it alone. I am using a 2-row 92 Explorer radiator.
