What kind of exhaust systems did you guys rig up in your rigs? What would be an optimum OD tubing for a 302 exhaust?

I was thinking of getting the Ford Ranger duals and just change things around from there.

302 in a 92 supercab

Hi Iron Ranger.

I may be new to the 4x4 world, but I'm not when it comes to the Ford 302. I've done a ton of work to my 90 GT and a fairly stock 302 works best with 2 1/4 - 2 1/2 inch tubing. Eventually, I'm hoping to put a 302 in my 86 Bronco II. Hope I could help.

Single exhaust? no bigger than 3". Dual exhaust, no bigger than 2-1/2". Mine's done by a local shop, Shelby Tri-Y's, left side crosses over to the right, merged into a 4"x12" chamber, back to duals (2-1/4") into twin Dyno Max Turbos, standing on their sides together, then split, over the rearend, left side goes back to the left frame rail, right to it's frame rail (both under the rails) and straight out the rear.

so, for duals, roughly 2-1/4" to 2-1/2"?

2.5 if you have some power. 300+

my favorite setup is 2 1/4 into a single 3 inch......dynomax welded

quiet and works good. i prefer the looks of duals but for the type of engine i am running and driving i do the 3 in has worked best so i have relented to using it.:dunno:

Mine has Torque Monster Explorer headers, cats, 2 1/4" duals through a Magnaflow dual in/dual out muffler.

Huh, is there a duals kit for a Ranger in a 2.5?

I noticed that you're installing a 1985 Crown Vic 5.0 into your 1989 Ranger. I have a 1991 Ranger that I installed a 1987 Crown Vic 5.0 and I converted it from FI to carb. I have since found out that these engines, unless it is an H.O., have the mildest cams that Ford made for the 5.0. If I had known this before, I would have sold the Crown Vic 5.0 (150 Hp) and bought a 5.0 H.O (225 Hp). This is a huge difference in ponies (75 Hp) with very little cost difference. Good luck with your mod!

The engine controll system (computer, sensors, & actuators) is from the '85 CV. The Engine came out of an '83 E-line. Might have 4K miles on it since overhaul & full valve job. Probably still mild on the HP, but that's OK by me. I'm different that way. Not looking to make H.O. HP. The '89 Ranger was given to me. The 2.3L in it had thrown a rod through the oil pan. All I had to do was go get it. The engine was in my rusted out Econoline - rained as hard in it, as it did out of it!
"Ranger - Econoline, hmmm?"
I've converted the engine from Carb to CFI, to improve drivability. Once the Ranger is up and running I hope to use it as a daily driver. Even with a mild 5.0L, it'll out torque the 2.3L.

Yes, there will be a huge increase in torque. I should have went with an H.O., but I understand where you're coming from. I am seriously considering yanking the 5.0 and installing a 351 Cleveland.

Do you guys know what the I.D. on the duals system in the LMC truck magazine is?

Money could be spent more wisely.

Do you guys know what the I.D. on the duals system in the LMC truck magazine is?
First, it depends upon year / model Ford Truck (F-Series, Bronco, B2, Ranger, Explorer, Expedition, Excursion).
Second, LMC sells replacements for stock components, generally speaking, which means that most of their systems would probably be stock. I saw that one of their "off-road dual exhaust systems", for an F-Series, was 2-1/4". Some of the systems for 351's are 2-1/2". If you're looking to replace an exhaust system in any particular year/model of Ranger with a 4 or 6 cylinder, they can most likely fix you up with a stock OEM configuration. If you're looking to replace an exhaust system with something that'll improve flow, I'd suggest a "Street Rod Kit" from JEGs for $200.00. The exhaust system I have pictured at the link above cost me a little over $500.00 to install. LMC can fix you up, but their prices look a little steep to me, for a stock configuration system (and that doesn't include the hardware you'll need - clamps, hangers, etc.). Before I went to LMC for a stock exhaust system - I'd go to Auto Zone or Car Quest! Again, just my 2¢.
