300 (4.9) swap 1998 Ranger

It will definitely be interesting to see how you make it work. A straight six is a long engine for a Ranger engine bay. Good luck and God speed!
Thank you! I am pretty impressed with how it is fitting.

in the engine bay with the transmission bolted to the motor. Drilled the spot welds and got the front rad support removed

Very interested. The 300 is on tops of my favorite list too. I know we've had one or two here over the years but i think they were all 1st gens.

Pretty bad ass youre doing it on a 98. Are the engine bays longer on these then the early ones? Anyone know?

I don’t know, but I do know I have an 89 and a 2000 sitting side by side in the driveway and a measuring tape…

I don’t think you understand that when I sent that I was in the recliner sipping coffee with a large black cat napping in my lap…

I know a couple people were asking in another group so I figured I should bring you up to speed on the other things I have done.

I bought it, it was all white 1998 Ranger 2.5 2wd base model truck. Passenger fender was a 2 tone panted matte white and the hood was all bent up. went to the junk yard and got a full Red, Hood and Fenders. Also a Bumper off a square body chevy. Installed them over a couple of months. when we removed the bed to add a trailer hitch we found more Rust then I remember when I bought it:)

Did the complete back half of the truck, wire wheel, paint. Rust buster Frame patch panels. 8.8 LSD with Disk brakes and a 3.73 rear Gear out of an Explorer. Used the bed off of my old 1993 ford ranger bed. that I wrecked in high school

Put some 15x10 wheels and 2 inch lift in the front and drove it for a few months until I melted a wrist pin bore in the 2.5 and thats how we ended up where we are today.

Just thinking. What if the Ranger was a 4WD. Any hope for using th 300 cui straight 6?

with enough modifications it could fit. I not sure about the front axle taking the torque. but I have seen straight axle swapped truck. My truck being 2wd was a major reason why I felt comfortable tackling this project I figured as a first major major engine swap fabircation job I keep it simple.
