I am doing a SAS on a 95 2wd supercab Ranger. I am getting a a complete Wrangler dana 30 from a junkyard with all brakes, leaf springs, steering linkage. I hope to make it all fit as cheaply as possible. I am only going to run 31's. Will I need a high steer kit?

This seems pretty straight forward so I am afraid that I'm forgettign something. My plan is to torch everything off the front and trim my engine crossmember. Then I will weld up spring and shock mounts. THe stearing is where I am confused. Should I get the Wrangler steering box? Pump?

Also, before you tell me that the dana 30 is to weak, I dont plan on doing anything more than getting into some mild mud a few times a year. This is my DD.

With the ammount of lift you would need to clear the 31's I doubt you would need to go to a high steer setup.

You will keep your steering box and pump, but use the steering linkage off of the wrangler.

no you shouldnt need a high steer kit if your plan is to only run 31s. and as for the steering u should be able to use the ranger box. they are pretty close to the same box. and as for the dana 30 one of my friends runs 35s on his xj and has no problem in the mud.

Are you planning to run the leaves under-axle? If so, I don't think the steering would be a problem.

I put in a D30 with leaves-over, and I ran a cross-over setup because I could really find no other suitable way to do it.

I got my leaf spring mounts from Ballistic, and they worked pretty good for me.

If the wrangler already has the leaves under the axle, I am going to leave it that way. I'm not sure how they are set up from the factory.

Otherwise I will just do whatever makes sense when I'm putting it together based on clearance and steering geometry.

It will be spring under from the factory.

Thanks for the info. This is the first SAS that I have done and I keep thinking it seems to simple. Can anyone think of aomething I may be missing. Will I need to lengthen the brake lines? Will the wrangler front brakes work ok with the Ranger proportioning valve? I am trying to get everything together and consider everything so I can just take a 3 or 4 day weekend and do it. I will worry about the tranny and tcase later. It can't really be this simple.
