3 dead cylinders before and after overheat

Oh yes, they're all in there. No ticking or crazy noises that would accompany such a blunder either. :).

The oddest thing: Same dead cylinders before and after head replacement. What I attributed to an overheat, may very well be electronic in nature from being covered in scalding coolant.......who knows at this point.

since the ignition fires 2 plugs at once, swap the pairs and see if the dead cylinders move.

Gotcha... It was worth bringing up as a possibility lol.

I've never personally never been at that level of bungled when it comes to a repair but... Probably a decade ago my buddy was doing some slight rehab on a SBC in his Monte.. better intake & better carb IIRC.. stuffed rags down all the runners in the intake to keep crap from falling down in the motor while he was messing with & cleaning various crap up in the engine bay..

Well... dude COMPLETELY FORGOT to remove the rags before he slapped the carb on it and fired it up 😖 naturally bent most of his intake valves almost immideately lol.

I'm never gonna let him live that down. Not only because REAL friends have the absolute moral obligation to relentlessly make fun of each other and their f-ups.. But also because I don't want him to do that again 🤣 he was super bummed, and I ended up sharing most of his pain & frustration as well.

A year later it really ended up in his favor though.. he found a lower mile 4 bolt main short block to replace the twin bolt that came in it but he also ponied up the cash for some nice Edelbrock aluminum heads & lumpy cam & all the other usual goodies.. sent it to a machine shop who took 8 months to assemble the thing 🙄.. but that gave him time to replace the ENTIRE floorpans & do various other bits of rust remidiation.. so his F-up really ended up allowing him to have a much nicer car all said and done.

Anyways.. thread derail over.. hope you can figure out why your trucks being so fussy sooner than later without too much blood, sweat, and beers.
