Has anyone done an offset grind of the crank and a slight bore of the cylinders to get a bit more displacement out of their engine? I am looking to find out if it will drive reasonably the same as a stock or if there are any changes for the worse with this mod, and when the power comes in. I also want to know if this will require premium fuel (93 octane), should have around 10:1 compression. (this is not my idea and I do not take credit for it)
Going to be doing lots of mods to my truck (most of them not engine mods) and it would be nice if I could get stock engine hp and torque to the rear wheels somehow. In other words I want to increase the power by the amount lost in the drive train.

Please explain carefully why you think a 6cid increase in displacement would
accomplish anything other than moving money from your pocket to some poor impoverished machinist?

Not to mention the custom rods or pistons that would be required?

The cheapest you MIGHT accomplish what you propose would still be more expensive than building a halfway decent 5.0 or even a 347 Stroker... AND installing that engine
in your truck... (with everything required)

have been trying to word this for a good long time now.
1. How much would an offset grind of the crank, indexing, and balancing run?
2. How much would it cost to bore a 3.0 block?

I know I can find rods and pistons that work as stock off the shelf with minor mods (don't need any custom work). I guess the deciding factor is what the shops will charge me, I can't immagine it would be more than what I would want a v8 to be.

If this was a toy I would go 5.0 all the way, I am just looking for a way to make this truck mine and a bit more fun to drive. Its mine I don't owe any money on it and doubt I could sell it for enough money to buy something fun and something usefull, and I wouldn't want to.

Force some air in that 3.0L and leave the crank alone.

I wanted something I could hide and no one would be able to find unless they really looked and knew what to look for. Looks like I will have to put it off till I don't have that restriction.

There use to be an adverstiment for a stroker kit (3.3) from moren or something like that. Check the tech pages.

Call your local machine shop and have them estimate it out, they may also recommend some things. Best to let them see what you are working with.

To have my pistons weighed and crank balanced was a bit of extra money, but my 5.0L in my Ranger runs smoother than the stock 5.0L in my Stang. I am not sure how much total it would have been because I knew the machine shop owner's son and got a ton of work that didn't get put on the bill.

Thanks everyone. I was looking at the 3.3l stroker kit for a while, guess I will look at it again. I just have never heard of anyone actually installing it.
I know a friend of a friend who owns a machine shop, but not for engines from what I have heard. I'll have to sit down with him and try to get some contacts and hopefully someone can give me a good price for some sort of work.
My contacts in town were no good and the guy is 80 miles away, so this is going to have to be put off till I can actually get to talking with him directly and not through my friend.
So the consensus is that it couldn't hurt and would give minor gains but will end up costing me more than the arm I had set aside for it. Probably an arm and a leg with another leg for good measure.

+1

You would be much better off selling your truck, and buying one with a 4.0L (SOHC if possible) if more power is what you are looking for.
