Hello,
I'm currently looking to change the muffler and add a chrome tip onto my stock exhaust system on my 2005 ford ranger 3.0 automatic. I know it will never sound like a beautiful v8, but I would like it to be pretty loud and hear it run through the gears, and at city speeds, but not hurt my ears. I am hearing the Flowmaster 40 is pretty good, but I am also hearing some good things about the thrush turbo muffler. Any suggestions would be great! :icon_cheers:

I'm very happy with my 2.5" catback with a flowmaster original 40, kicked out the side with a bigger tip. I think the tip is 3.5". Happy with it in town, nearly goes away on the highway.

i got the 40 flowmaster and to me it's to quiet

Just imo, any louder it'd sound way too ricey for me to drive. It sounds pretty decent for the 3.0 as is. Louder and it's like you're trying to hard to make noise.

Just imo!

Thanks for the info! Anyone have any experience with the thrush turbo mufflers?

Here are some photos of my Gibson single side stainless system. It's not much louder than stock, and no "droan" sound like the Flowmasters have:

Good thing about the 3.0 is it doesnt sound very ricey, sounds almost V8ish at idle.

I love the way truck sounds, I have the factory exhaust up to where it goes into the flowmaster (stock muffler position) and then 3" out the side, almost exactly like Goody's.

I have a magneflow on mine with 2 1/2 inch tail pipe and I like the way it sounds

I have the 3.0 five speed and a had a bad exhaust damage due to wheelin. I just cut the exhuast right after the O2 sensor, removing the muffler, resonator and everything in after. I then put 2 inch pipe all the way back. My truck is loud, but not hurt your ears loud. I get compliments on my truck all the time on the way it sounds, but i also have alot more done to it than just an exhuast. My favorite part: the crackling that comes when you downshift.

I also prefer the sound of Magnaflows to Flowmasters, especially on v-6's. Magnaflows don't make that annoying "tinny" resonation at cruising speeds like the flowmasters do. They are practically silent at freeway speeds and produce a low, smooth rumble at idle.

I also just recently put a Dynomax ultra-flo on my b2300 and really like it. The duratec 4-banger is very ricey, but there really isn't any way around it. The exhaust has actually gotten more quiet as it's broken in, which is nice. From what I've seen, the Thrush turbo mufflers seem to be pretty good (made by Dynomax), especially considering the price. You might want to consider searching youtube so you can hear the different types of mufflers and decide for yourself.
