What would have to be done to swap a 3.0L motor with a manual trans over to a 4.0L with a manual. is it a bolt on swap or no?

No it is not easy! You will almost need a complete donor vehicle sitting in the back yard. NOTHING interchanges! From the radiator to the tail pipe it is all different.

It should be bolt in, but as Big Jim stated, you'd need everything that touches the engine, which would be made much easier with a donor vehicle. If you're going to switch all of that, I'd choose something more than just a 4.0. It's a lot of work and money for a minimal gain IMO.

alright. because i've been looking to buy a 93-7, 4.0l, extended cab, 4x4, 5 speed. but around here there is a lot of 3.0L and 4 bangers. i could probably go to the JY and find a 4.0L but what motors are intercangeable?

what shares the block is a 3.8
2.9 to 4.0
302 to 351 windsor
3.0 to 3.8
Ive heard that a mustang 3.8 has the same bell housing as a 302 but thats what I would look into maybe

Dude, just go for the 5.0, you WON'T be disappointed!! :) People bitch about the low power of the 3.0 but the 4.0 isn't really all that special either.
