3.0L 2003 Ranger 3 cylinders Misfiring i need some help please

Mist water from a spray bottle around all your plug wires and coils (preferably in the dark) to check for arcing or sparkles.

New parts aren’t always good anymore.

oh ok thatt would kinda explain why its still not running right can i really just spray water on electrical components like that ?!

On the outside, sure, the mist will not maintain a short or anything, just show you where stray electricity might be.

Just to catch an easy answer first, I got to ask... on page one someone asked if you changed the spark plug wires, on page 2 you confirmed you did.... Are you 100% sure you got the firing order correct? Now that we have a phone in our pocket I take a pic before I do anything, and if it was running well put it back like original, if it was running like crap go double check the wiring order with the spec. I googled 2003 ford 3.0 and came up with exactly one order 1-4-2-5-3-6, but 4 different engines & 2 mountings (standard and transverse).... quick double check on the firing order.
(The diesel's numbering scheme is the oddball - you don't count the cylinders the same on it.)

A consistent misfire tends to lead me to a miswired spark plug wires.

right i have triple checked the the way the spark plug wires are going to the coil and they are right also the truck started running rough before i messed with anything and changed stuff unless timing has gotten off track and that's why they are consistently misfiring

I'd bet injectors but only from my experience. For grins, add a can of BG 44K fuel system cleaner. That would solve my number 4 cylinder misfire problem for one tank of gas - then return.

If unsure about intake gasket, spray some carb cleaner along the edge of the intake with the engine running. If rpm increases, then definitely an intake gasket leak.

3-4 share the same coil, check the connector at the coil for breaks in the wiring and bad connections. You mentioned a tick noise as well. Can you isolate which cylinder has the tick with a stethoscope?

i will try that and i have put some marvel and seafoam cleaner in the fuel system before my only concern is if running the engine how it is right now will damage anything but i will definitely try that thank you very much and happy for more suggestions

ahh ok so first i would like to ask if i was using a stethiscope where would i liten to it like location on the engine also it sounded like it was coming from cylinder 3 but i am not too sure i have to poke around a bit more and listen to the engine with as you said a stethoscope

The concern would be trouble with the rocker gear or pushrod or valve spring. You can listen at the top of the valve cover above each cylinder. If the tick is consistent, that valve cover should be removed for inspection. Did the tick and miss occur at the same time?

ahh ok so that would be that also it sounded like the clicking was consistent but then the misfiring was all over the place so it could be alifter just gone astray but as i said i will record more of my findings with all these tips thank you so much because then we can start narrowing all this stuff down

enough time by now to look at the plugs for clues too .....

assuming no arcing.

Ok yeah we have some more BIG clues 1 and 4 have compression but 3 has no compression I tested it 5 times also I changed the fuel filter but I am pretty sure it is something to do with cylinder 3 also the clicking is coming from that valve area
