okay so im looking to buy a ranger, i had a 96 ranger 5 speed with the 2.3 four banger and i loved it but stupid me sold it and now i want another one haha the one im looking at is a 99 5sp 3.0 with 122,000 miles...how well do these motors hold up and does 122,000 miles sound like alot of miles to you guys? thanks

THe 3.0 is reliable if taken care of, change the oil regularly and fix it when little things wear out and it will run forever. i dont think that 122K is too many miles.

The 3.0L is a fairly reliable engine. They all seem to need head gaskets when they get older. My 92 Ranger w/112,000 miles needs headgaskets as of right now. I had the truck for 5 yrs and no real issues, I never over heated the engine or abused it, one day coming home from work the head gasket was puking out antifreeze from the side of the engine. The 3.0L power wise feels like my 2.3L but with crappier fuel mileage.

if you do get it seafoam it and go for synthetic. thats what i did to my 06 just before 60k and even then i noticed better gas mileage and a bit more power.
