Hello, just got a starter on my recently bought 3.0 flex fuel ranger, it started right up but sounds like a rod bearing or Crank bearing is out. These motors are gutless and pretty much worthless, so I'm willing to sacrifice it. I want to do a swap but not any swap, I'm thinking unique.. 2jz, 4g63, Cummins, sr20, anything along those lines. I have a 289 hi po in my basement but my father said I shouldn't do a v8 swap because of the "insurance" I might be 16 but I'm not stupid enough to be trying 150 in a 2wd ranger. Anyways, I think I could convince him to go for a 2jz-1jz, sr20, or hell even a 2.3 turbo.. what all do I and would I need for any of these swaps? Anyone have experience with these?

The main things you have to worry about with non conventional swaps are the oil pan and engine crossmember clearance, engine mounts, transmission options, heater box clearance and wiring harnesses.

Of everything you listed, the 2.3 turbo would be the cheapest/easiest.

But with good fabricating skills, anything is possible.

The whole insurance thing is a myth i have a 5.0 and mine is still 10 a month for liablity
