My credo
It is what it is.
Ok, so I have a Frankenstein truck. The body is a 1986, not sure what the frame is, the motor is a 1991-1994. It is a 3.0 and 4 wheel drive. 2" body lift and 4" suspension lift sitting on 33's. I believe the rear end was swapped with a 8.8. I want to swap my 3.0 with a 4.0. I know I will have to have the 4.0 trans, what kind mess am I gonna get into with the wiring, motor mounts, fuel system?

Fuel system is the same, motor mounts different. Wiring depends on how the 3.0 was done and what year the 3.0 was. Theoretically, if you get a similar year 4.0 as the 3.0 it should be plug n play.
What would I do? I'd get a 96-97 4.0 with ecu & harness & OBD2 diagnostic port and wire it up...

3.0l has 150 horse power, 190ft/lb torque

1990-2000 4.0l has 160HP, 220 ft/lb torque
So only a 10HP difference

I think money would be better spent on building up the 3.0l or going to a 302(5.0l) V8, at 215HP.
V8 swap would be about the same as 4.0l swap in time and money.
Or even easier if you go with carb and distributor on the V8, so no computer needed
