3.0 to 4.0 or to 5.0?

The Google says 250-280 hp, depending on the year of the LS v8.

From what I know, there are 3 - 3.0s:

1. 3.0 Vulcan stock Ranger engine.
2. 3.0 SHO - shares some heritage a 3.0 Vulcan with DOHC heads. same bore, stroke, bell housing pattern
3. 3.0 Mondeo aka Duratec - is bored 2.5 Duratec. 3.0 Duratec out of Escape would make interesting swap but:

Mondeo appears to be very different than any other pattern.

Know nothing about the LS...

'01 Ranger RCSB has 111.7" wb
'01 Explorer Sport aka 2dr has 101.8" wb
'01 Explorer aka 4dr has 111.6" wb.
BII was a miniscule 94" wb.

Those numbers are from the first released 4.8/5.3 gen III'S. Still good hp numbers. Ls gives you plenty of options to choose from. The 6.0, 5.3, and 4.8 all share the same block. 4.8 is higher compression ratio because it has flat top piston which makes it great for boost applications. The 6.0 has a larger bore than the others (4.00vs 3.78). In it's early years the lq4 produces around 340hp/360tq No matter which one you choose they all fit in the exact same mounts and everything is the exact same bolt pattern. Either one you go with a good cam and springs is all you would need to push 400hp/tq on the 6.0 n/a.

No. The numbers I was looking at are for the 3.9 litre Jaguar v8 in the Lincoln LSE not a Chevy LS.

Will the Duratec mount to my M5 trans.

The reason I was asking about Wheel bases is, If I change transmissions to one that may be longer than mine, would the ExpoSport driveshaft work? I see there is about a 10" difference, would that be roughly a 10" shorter driveshaft?

With an adapter plate, anything can be made mount; but no, the M5OD won't directly bolt to the Duratec...

Probably 20" shorter - finding a Explorer Sport 2wd would be finding a unicorn - at least locally. And with transfer case, driveshaft would be lot short, not to mention, wouldn't have slip you on end.

Pre -97 RCSB driveshaft is 3" shorter than your '01 - its what I used for the front axle in my tandem...

Transfer Case?? on a 2wd? I'll pass.
BTW 2wd 2door Explorers are like everywhere down here, finding a cheap V8 expo/Mounty donor is the challenge for me.

My bad. You still have some info on the chevy ls either way.

I'm a Ford guy of course, but the LS motor I have to give its dues. You've options, reliability, and power. I've owned a suburban. Gave it to my dad and I know it'll get him around to cut back the miles on his antique 4Runner. I don't know how they bolt in on a Ranger setup and I'm not really for the idea of the 'hybrid' as Rich on Pinks would call them. I'm warming up to settling on the idea of just doing the typical 302 drop in since I've 2 extra, and from what I've read it's the easiest V8 swap to be done?

Not a Chevy guy at all, and it is blasphemous to put a Chevy motor in a ford body unless it's a ratrod.

I am a GM car and Ford truck guy

See no issues in taking the better running gear out of one and putting it in the other

Although "better" is a personal definition, lol.
