3.0 to 4.0 1999 Ranger

I was wondering, I have read alot about putting a 4.0 into a older ranger with a 2.9l but is it possable to put a 4.0 in my 1999 ford ranger?

Yes it is, but IMO, it wouldn't be worth the time or cost to do it. If you're going to swap in a new motor, pick one that will give you the biggest upgrade possible.

The sohc motors seam to have abit more power is why i was wanting to just go with the 4.0 and I dont want to go with a 5.0. My thinking was when my 3.0 does go I would have a fresh rebuilt 4.0 waiting to drop right in. I have plenty of access to junk yards I was in the business for a couple of years so i got some connections to find what I need at a cheaper price.

SOHC's are a nice motor, and if you've got access to cheap parts, then it might be a nice upgrade, but you'll need the 4.0 tranny, wiring harness, and ECU in addition to the motor, so it is a pretty in depth project that would require lots of work. You'd have to switch out all of those things to do the 5.0 swap too ( the same amount of work), and you'd see larger gains. Just my $.02.

In my opinion the SOHC motor isn't really worth much. My mom has one and even with 4.10's I still like my 3.0L and 3.73's better. I would swap in a OHV motor if it were me or a 5.0L. They have a better torque curve and make power at lower RPM's.
