Welcome to TRS :)

You can use any 3.0l Vulcan engine from 1986 to 2008, years this engine was made, Rangers used them from 1991 thru 2008, Mazda B3000 used them from 1994 thru 2008 as well

Later model would be better just because of lower miles, lol

You will be swapping over your current upper and lower intake manifolds for sure, and oil pan(as needed)
You will also swap over your distributor, 1995 and up Vulcan's have the distributor hook up but were distributorless
You use current wiring harness

Ford cars used 3.0l Vulcan and the 3.0l Duratec, Duratec can not be used, the Vulcan can be, but you need to change the head gaskets to Ranger 3.0l gaskets

You can read here about changes in the 3.0l Vulcan over the years: https://therangerstation.com/tech_library/3_0-build.shtml

There were only 2 cranks used and no mention of changes to the pulley

If it comes up, you can use either the Flex Fuel or Gas only 3.0l Vulcan in your 1992 gas only vehicle, no issues at all
