So I finished my swap today. And learned a few things about the 1 year differences on the 3.0 ranger that I would like to share. First off my 99 rangers oil pump went out and instantly froze my engine! So my donor was a wrecked 2000 ranger. The differences in the two were these:
1. The intake plenum has smaller diameter bolts.
2. The fuel injectors have different clips.
3. The transmission has 2 extra clips than mine.(Both automatics)
4. Different coil pack. Which is located on the valve cover. Subsequently it has a different clip as well. Also does not have the clip on plug wires.
5. The header manifold is at a different angle so the exhaust WILL NOT bolt up. There's also an extra set of cats on the 2000. And the 2000 has studs and nuts instead of bolts.
Conclusion:
There is an easy fix for all of these differences!
1. Use the plenum from the 2000. Bolt size obviously doesn't matter.
2. Use fuel rails and injectors from the 99. (Swap takes 2 seconds!)
3.Use wire harness from the 99.
4. The coil pack from the 99 will work just mount it on the plenum again! And since your useing the harness and fuel injectors from the 99 everything plugs in!
5.As for the exhaust take the passenger side header off the 99 motor and use that. Problem solved. Then simply use the flange bolts from the 99!
That's all there is to it! Hope this helps somebody
