i have a xtra 3.0 layin in my garage and i decided to build it up to replace the 3.0 in my truck.. are there any other companys that build extreme performance parts and other goodies that i should know about??..

i know the vulcan 3.0's are strong engines cause mine has 171,689 and it still runs as fast as when i got it.. 90,xxx miles later

theres supercharge/turbo charging threads floating around.

from what they are saying you can get away with up to 5psi on these with no major internal mods, which is very good imo. a good rebuilt turbo is 3-600 that would easily blast the heads off of one so i hope to see this happening alot more. you got alot of room with a 3.0 under the hood to make some decent power and still get usable 4 dollar a gallon economy.

i know i am wondering if i want to play with one for one of my kids to use. but emily wants a crotch rocket instead of a truck, and thats definatly cheaper then working on a truck:woot:

You can do anything you can afford to a 3.0 and it will get you nowhere. The intake manifold is the main restriction and nobody makes a better one. A turbo or supercharger eliminates the intake as a restriction. That is the only reason for all the posts about it. Other wise, the combustion camber in the head sucks. other than those two things, the engine is awesome. My favorite.

wow now idk if i want to swap out my 3.0 now that i went on that web site thanks

The 3.0 is a high Rpm motor and loves to set at high Rpms all day long. I have an '86 Aerostar motor that has sat at 6000 rpms for extended periods of time, it rattles a little now but, I have done this for years.
My '87 has a '96 taurus motor that has been ported, 5 angle valve job, port match, roller rockers. The '86 is more fun for me (non roller cam) but, the '87 will pull at a lower RPM.
P.S. the '86 motor is 100% stock.

One more little bit of 3.0 tech The '86 and '87 aerostar engines didn't EVER blow head gaskets OR crack heads. I wonder why? LOL.

so what kind of power would you expect from the complete 3.3L motor????:dunno:

i would expect around 200HP out of that setup. the real advantage to that motor, however, is the forged internals. that engine will take some serious abuse (high RPM, high boost levels). it'd be easy to get 400+ HP out of that with a turbo.

so all that money for 200hp. but still if it could handle 400+ thats cool. you just need a deep wallet!

i just spent some time on moranas site, been a while since i was on there. its probably good for more than 200hp...but the big advantage is still those forged internals.
