hi,i changed engines in my 1998 3.0 with another 98 3.0.the engine was idling rough and the mechanic replaced the tps with the one from the old engine.same problem.so I replaced it with a new one.idles rough and then revs up to 2500-3000 and stays for awhile and then starts idling rough and back up and down.p0122 and p0 300 or p0303 codes.do I need to adjust the tps when I replaced it.if so can someone with how to do it?thanx tim.

P0300 is random misfire
P0303 is cylinder 3 misfire
P0122 is low tps circuit

Does it rev on its own?
Need to rest thr voltage to the tps sensor I could be in youyour harness. Double check to make sure you don't have corroded or bare wires in the harness including the pigtail.

it would rev up on its own.i took it off and put it back on.the revving stopped but still rough idle.i check the voltage going into the plug with the key on.i got 5 volts on brown/white wire.58.8 ohms to grey/red one.nothing on grey/white.i moved throttle cable and the voltage didn't change.

i checked the grey/white again.nothing until i moved throttle cable.pulled back some started to read ohms then turned to volts.got about 12 volts.how much pulling the throttle cable should it start reading volts?should it read ohms first?

Reading ohms is not the right way to test it.

Have the three wire plug into the tps and measure by back probing the wires.

One wire will stay a constant 5 volts plus or mines .2 of a volt. Called reference voltage

One wire is a ground to the pcm no power.

The other will be 5 volts if you get 1 or 5 volts plugged in bad sensor. It should reading from 1.1 to 4.9 volts fully open or close.
