My ranger pings like a behotch 3.0 , 190000, have done plugs, wires, egr, iac, it seemed to fix it when i put the 160 thermostat in since it only pings when it gets to 192 F. any suggestions?? i heard the dpfe sensore that controlls vacume for the egr goes out a lot but doesnt throw a code??? please help i dont want my baby to blow up! idk if this matters but i run Full synthetic since i bout it at 178,000

I had to change my maf sensor to get mine to act right. and of course verify timing. if yours is a dizzy

It is carbon build up in the combustion chambers. Run seafoam or another type of combustion chamber cleaner.

The 3.0L are horrible for carbon build up. The other thing I can recommend from from my own personal experience with my 97 3.0L is to drive the piss out of it. Don't be scared to rev it. I shift at 3000rpm and only use 3rd in town. The 3.0L loves revs and will scream along like that all day long.

The DPFE will set a P0401 code and an engine light.

Agreed on all counts. Low octane fuel will only make the problems worse, so if the seafoam doesn't fix the problem, try a higher grade of fuel.

It shouldn't NEED higher Octane fuel.....

Am going through this on 2.9L w/ 199K miles... Leaking intake and or injector o-ring will cause lean detonation. Also check spark plug gap and make sure you are using plugs for your truck.... OEM or Autolite (IMO) have been the best fit - heat ranges are dead on. I must have had my plugs and fuel rail apart 3 times before I got the sweet spot.

If pinging still you can try to retard timing a bit - oh - if you have a dist - that is

You could also do the Hot Water Bypass depending on what year you have. It helped a little when I did it, try running e85 if yours is flex fuel. That made the pinging go away completely when I ran it.
