I Have A 90 Ranger The 2.9 Was Pulled Before I Got It And Swopped With A 4.0 Or 3.0 How Do I Tell If It Is A 4.0 Or 3.0 Ford Said There Should Be A Tag On The Valve Cover , No Tag

What does the Intake manifold look like?

Does it have a multi coil pack Or a distributor? A pic would be the easiest.

The valve covers extend over the outer part of the intake manifold on a 3.0, much like the FE big block.

In other words, the intake manifold can be taken off of a 4.0 without removing the valve covers.

a 3.0l will actually say "3.0l Vulcan" on the black plastic valve cover, thats probably the easiest distinguishing factor on any Ford engine out there heh. If you've got steel valve covers than its definitely a 4.0l.

you need to take another look at a 4.0l!:icon_rofl:

Not on my 4.0 either!

OK, fine.

On a 3.0, THE VALVE COVERS ARE BOLTED TO THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AS WELL AS THE HEADS.
