well i have a 97 ranger platform with a weak ass 3.0L motor and soon to be going out tranny.

and a 95 explorer with a 4.0L and a good tranny. BUSTED UP BODY.

:dunno: can i swap them and how hard will it be? can i use existing wires and just swap motor, tranny, and ecu's? or is there alot more to it? Do i have to swap wire harness also? and other stuff?

ANYONE MIND GIVING ME A FEW CENTS ON THIS TOPIC OF WHAT THEY THINK? THANKS EVERYONE! :icon_confused:

THANKS GUYS!

Hey Pyrosity

im a new member as well. i have a similair set up, 1996 exploder complete, and i want to drop the complete drivetrain in a 85 ranger. if you get any help on your question let me know. i don't know if it's possible either.

thanks

well im sure it can be done easily....but as far as the harnesses go, i think you just unplug the main harness and ecu and reattach when you reinstall the new engine...that and the engine mounts them self might be different....well as soon as i get the dang exploder here ill be able to figure out if it will work or not....FINGERS CROSSED!

No they are gonna be different cause 96 is when they went to coils I believe and OBDII. so the 95 exploder harness is gonna be different and your 97 won't pass emissions if its an non OBD II engine thats in an OBD II truck... But the Exploders are a little different so... Maybe...?

And for TOAKS: everythings gonna have to be swapped over for your 85" Engine, Trans, Harness, Computer, Rear Axle (and get a D35 front axle), inline fuel pump ect.

exploders changed over to obd2 in 95 from what i hear....so when i get it ill have to check and see what i have....otherwise im not to worried about emissions because i dont have them in the county i live in....Us true rednecks out in the boonies....

going off of the knowledge I have from explorer/mountaineer V8 swaps, it will not work, you will need to get the engine harness/computer, but when you get to the driver side of the harness, your power connections is what you will have to repin, it is not plug and play, but you can make it work. Grab both EVTM's and just trace em down...as far as motor mounts, I believe they will work, but JIC go to www.autozone.com and check the part numbers for both vehicles...

interesting....ill have to look at that....good heads up....

how hard do you think it will be to rewire or replug a power pin?

Its not hard at all to do it, just time consuming...Waht I do is write down what color wire will go to what pin (the connector should have the pin number labeled, if not, draw a diagram of the connector and pin location), pull the pins (you will need a small scratch awl or small pick to unlock the pins), and replace in the correct location...

Driver side firewall, large plug. This will have your main power to the dash, as well as your feed for your tach, temp, oil press, fuel pump feed, etc...
