Im betting its been asked already, but can I put 3.0 heads on a 2.9, im tired of searching for new heads and I've seen a plenty of 3.0 heads available and I've seen a couple sites claim they will work but I still haven't seen a definitive yes or no yet, if anyone knows id really appreciate it!!

I would think the answer would be no. The two engines aren't really related in any way.

correct

2.9 bore spacing/bore 4.76/3.661
3.0 bore spacing/bore 4.33/3.504 Vulcan.
plus its ohc vs ohv for most years

there was a Nissan 3.0 in the Mercury Villager, no specs found.

The 2.9 and 3.0 were both OHV for all years as far as the Ranger applications went.

+1 ^^^

3.0l Vulcan engine was the only 3.0l used in Rangers, an OHV engine, it was also used in the Ford Taurus/Sable
Taurus also used a 3.0l Duratec DOHC engine, so 3.0l description could be either, but NOT in a Ranger.

And neither of these heads would work on a 2.9l Cologne block/engine
Neither would the 4.0l OHV Cologne heads, if that comes up

You would almost be better looking at the chevy 2.9l they gad the same engineer but don't think anything will work unless you call brodix and ask might take a fee month's

Um, i had a chevy 2.9. They share nothing in common with a ford 2.9 besides displacement.

Chevys 2.9 was a DOHC inline 4. Alot different then a OHV 6.

3.0 (vulcan, duratec or nissans villager 3.0) heads will not work on a 2.9.

Not the 2.9l dohc .
It could be 2.6 chevy v6 that I'm thinking about

GM had a 2.8L V6.

Still shares nothing in common with the 2.9 (or 2.8 ford).

He is probably thinking of the 3.8s. The Ford 3.8 was a poorly reverse engineered version of the poorly designed Chevy 3.8 (not the better Buick 3.8 that was in most of GMs sedans for many years). And even still they don't have a ton of interchangeable parts.
