3.0 Electric Fan Conversion


An e-fan is a great mod. Frees up a little bit of power and fuel economy. Truck also warms up quicker, mine doesn't kick on 6 months out of the year.

I have yet to see someone that hasn't seen gains, whether in fuel economy or power from an e-fan swap. The only members that bad mouth them are the ones who have never tried it.

What year taurus do you recommend. I went to a bone yard and saw a taurus, but there is no way it would work for my Ranger.

Get a tauraus e-fan and housing from the junk yard and try to get the relays as well. Then make up some basic bracketry and wire it up. You can either get a temp switch or just put it on a switch. Mine is wired up through a temp switch with the optional overide switch for when i am wheeling it hard. I can leave it on or let it do the work itself. It is all up to you on how you want to do it. Bob, have you ever done an electric fan conversion? I put a taurus fan on my truck and gained around 2 miles to a gallon. Also a noticeable improvement to low end power, which is desperately needed on 3.0s. I think this argument is just like the body lift debate. If e-fans do not hold any improvements, why does everyone run them on the race cars why wouldn't they run a mechanical one. I also know this for fact, when I am on a trail at a low rate of speed my truck stays at a cooler temp than it did with the mechanical fan.

escort fans can fit in most rangers as well.

the hd cooling 4.0 will require trimming of the shroud and upside down
 
I've got a Ford Lightning with a supercharged motor, and it's not stock, with different pulleys on the blower drive, an intake and exhaust. Stock they make 380, mine more like 450 hp. Still have the stock clutch fan, which is no different than the one on my Ranger. They work well and neither has failed. My Ranger's is 20 years old, as is the water pump it's mounted on. No bearing failure on the pump with 155,000 miles on the clock. My Lightning's is 14 years old with no bearing failures on the 14 year old, 65,000 mile water pump.

I refuse to swap either to Sparky fans. I've had electric fans fail before, and it sucks ass. Never again. Clutch fans rock. I've never noticed any noise from my clutch fans, where some Sparky fans make a hell of a lot of noise when they're on. Some I said, not all. I could give a rat's ass about a few hp from an electric conversion, I'd rather have the already proven stock fans, which have not caused an overheat problem yet, even during 100+ summer days on a supercharged motor with the ac on. Plus I hate all the extra wiring needed to put Sparky fans on. Just plain FUGLY!

There are numerous guys on the Lightning forum I hang out on, that have swapped back to the stock set up from Sparky fans, after they found out that there simply are no Sparky fans that can cool the big supercharged V-8 as well as the stock clutch fan. Some of these guys have built engines and big blowers, and are pushing the nine second bracket, with stock clutch fans.

You like your Sparky fan, you can keep your Sparky fan. I'll stay with clutch fans, thank you very much. That's money I have for something else more important.

I do agree with the reliability of clutch fan over aftermarket electric. I opted for eFan to get better engine heating (so far better) but have not tested it in southern summer heat yet. I have not thrown away my clutch fan yet and if needed I could switch back easily with only removing stroud. On long trips I plan to take it along just in case.
 
Don't waste your money

I installed an electric fan on my truck. Kit I found on E Bay motors. Made a lot of claims for improved power and mileage. About the only thing it did was get rid of the annoying clutch fan noise. A real waste of 200+ bucks. Temp stays the same.
