I have been thinking about doing an engine swap in my truck for a long time. I have an 86 ranger with the old 2.3 litter I4. I was woundering how hard would it be to swap in the 3.0 litter duratec v6 from say a 1999 taurus. I was woundering as I hear of people doing the 5.0 swap all the time and I want to do somthing a little more unique. ( I was also considering a flat head conversion :-D what would be more unique :D) but seriously any help would be greatly appritiated.

This will be very custom.

You'll need a M5OD from a 3.0 Ranger for a tranny.

The ECU and everything will need to be swapped over.

The only thing I may think of being a problem is the duratech being FWD, vs RWD. The coolant flow may be reversed.

Maybe somebody can chime in and direct you further.

big problem with this swap is pats. you would need to swap in the steering column might be able to custom a dash cover.

then the transmission on the duratecs are computer controlled so you would need to fool it that it is ok.

may i redirect you. you will get 20 hp and it is more practical. and is compatible with the 3.0 manual transmission......the 3.0 sho taurus engine from the late 80s in a mini mgb from the read it is a possible swap

ok so fool the comp, and find a lot of parts for the 3.0l v6, look at the sho motor. Got it,

I did a little research and found that the 3.0l was used as both front and rear drive. One from a lincoln will work for rear wheel drive, and can be bolted to an automatic, i just don't know which one.

I also don't know about engine mounts, would a 3.0 vulcans engine mounts be similar?
