I have a Vulcan block torn down in my garage. I'll look tonight. I seem to remember some hollow alignment pins. But I work on a lot of machines. So, not sure if that's right or not.
Two on each head. Yes, sometime they are left in the head, which is below the head surface. Use a curved pick to get it out. During installation, I think all 4 should be on the block first.
They are dowel sleeves, so head bolt goes thru them, dowel pins would be solid, no hole
2 on each side of the V6 block in opposite corners
These align the head gasket and the head to the block
