3.0 Build

Yeah. As far as I know, all Vulcans had aluminum upper and lower intakes until 2001, when the upper was switched to composite. But 98-2000 were supposedly the best of the aluminum ones in stock form. Putting Escape throttle bodies on was fairly common for awhile, but I believe it required adding some material to the throttle body flange in order to seal well enough to avoid vacuum leaks.
Thanks. I appreciate the reply.

What do you think of putting a 60mm TB from a 99-2004 3.8L Mustang on the intake? I know it will take some porting to make them match up and work.

do later years have valve springs better suited for higher RPMs?

I ran some numbers for springs, compared a 1995 Taurus 3.0 to a 2005 Ranger 3.0. factory specs.
the Taurus has heavier 8mm valve stems, Ranger 7mm, lift (0.260") and rocker ratio (1.61) are the same. so the Rangers springs should have less work to do.
2005 3.0s have beehive springs, so does my 2000 3.0 I'm not sure what's in a '95. quite certain the 'ol 87 Taurus 3.0 had straight springs.

the '95 Taurus has pressures of 180 lbs open 65 lbs closed, a difference of 115 lbs to go the .4186" lift at the valve.
multiplying the .4186 lift by 2.389 yields 1", then multiplying the 115 lbs by 2.389 yields a spring rate of 274 lbs/inch. sound 'bout right???

for the '05 it's 205 lbs open, 68 lbs closed, a difference of 137 for that .4186" then 137 x 2.389 yields a spring rate of 327 lbs/inch. still sound OK???

"by the numbers" it looks like the later springs should be better. anybody have real results sayin' 'ya or 'na ? boom or no-boom ? rev or wreck ?

it's late, I should stop typing now. 'g night all.

I'd like to put one of each head on the band saw to compare the ports.
if anybody does that pull the hardened valve seats first, your blade ain't gonna like them.
