I have several ranger trucks, the one I am presently working on is a 1991 2wd 4.0 automatic(bad trans) what will interchange 2.9,3.0 ? what years?

No. The 3.0 Has its own bellhouse pattern. The 2.9, and 4.0 share the same bellhouse pattern.

so if I wanted to install a trans from behind a 2.9 what would I have to change and what years work? 2wd

On the A4LD the bell housing can be swapped.

On the manual trans they cannot be.

If you are wanting to bolt it up to a 4.0L you will need a 4.0L or 2.9L bellhousing. They are both the same (same as the 2.8L bellhousing as well) The 3.0L has its own bellhousing tho. You can unbolt the bellhousing from the front of the tranny and swap it over from the dead tranny to the working tranny.

are all of the plugs and wiring the same for the speedometer?sorry for all the questions im new to rangers and am learning as I go.

FYI, the 4.0L and the 2.9L also share the same flexplate/flywheel, as both have the same part number
