Searched forever, everyone wants more power, not MPG!
Anyway, '94 3.0 auto 4x4 is very tired at 230k. Was thinking
of obtaining an OLD 2.3....raising comp., no PCM/ OBD stuff, ditching EGR,
duraspark ign. etc.
Question is, what can be done with the existing front driveline?
I don't 'need' 4x4, but getting the old 4cyl trans to mate with the electrically
actuated transfer case seems like an exercise in futility, no?
I want to have an old school, non electronic gas sipper, if I can swing it.
Will end up looking for a clapped out 80's 5speed ranger for the donor driveline. I realize my dashboard will be 'dead', but that is another topic.
Any advice?? Thanks, guys.

Do a manual with the 2.3 with fuel injection if you want gas mileage. Otherwise, if you are set on a carb'd engine, then get a manual t-case. That should solve the electronically shifted t-case issue.
