i have a 2001 ford ranger with 33x15.50 super swampers and the 3.0 just doesnt like turning them. i want to have 4.88 gears installed but what is going to need yo be replaced? will the 4.88 fit in the 4.10 case or will i have to get a different housing?

You have to find out what type of axle you have. It should tell you on your door id tag. If not take your vin number to ford and they can run it and find out. I think its a 8.8" axle, thats what I have. You can buy gears specific to that axle.

Yes there is such gears for this. But Check with summtracing.com for complete kits.

4:56 did the trick for me

I'm not sure but I think if you have 3.73's or higher case you should be ok. I know someone with more knowledge will let us all know.

you should be good jeep guys use our 8.8 axles all the time without problems what you will need are new bearings and a new rebuild kit for your axle it might come with the gears but check and see it would be wise to replace it all now then later down the road
