Is it possible to put a d35 in the front of a 2wd? or would it just be easier to do a sas.

On a Ranger? Yeah, SAS might be easier on that. You'd have to cut out and swap the frame crossmember under the engine as well for the 4WD axle brackets to fit.

sell truck. buy 4wd truck for only a few hundred bucks more than 2wd was sold for.

problem solved :icon_cheers:

Doing the SAS is far easier than swapping in the TTB Dana 35. If you think about it, it makes sense too. The 2WD Rangers are less likely to be beaten on and are quite plentiful. if you have your mind set as I do to make a 2WD a 4WD, there will be fair amount of work involved. First off, your gonna be swapping both the transmission and transfer case. Drive shafts will need to be swapped also. As for the SAS, your imagination is your only limit. There's a Dana 30 (some will say it's a weak swap and to not do it) Then there is the Dana 44. You could go nuts and do a Dana 60 also.
First thing you gotta do is sit down and figure out what you want and are expecting of this truck. If your looking for a reliable DD that may run the fire line roads every so often.. and not run any bigger than a 32" tire, than the Dana 30 will most likely do you quite well (the Dana 30 is "considered" a light duty differential). If you plan on doing moderate wheeling, than a Dana 44 would be better suited to your needs.
Your next choice for a SAS will be what front suspension to use. Four link... radius arms... leafs??? It all depends on you are expecting of your truck.
Hope this helps... Keep us posted on what your gonna do!

thanks for the info guys. right now i have pretty much decided on the d44 swap. my friend has one that im trying to get from him cause i know hes never gonna use it ever. im also trying to get a hold of an exploder 8.8 just waiting on my tax returns. i think either four link front or radius arms. i dont want leafs. i dont want leafs in the rear either so that will be four linked as well. future plans might include an exo cage. i plan on running 33's is all with 4.10's and a ls in the rear. V8 swap with a c4 will happen eventually. my trans i already on its last legs. its gonna be a dd/ silver lake/ trail rig. i didn't pay much for the truck and its paid off. i dont really want a new payment. im not sure if i can rebuild it with a sas for cheaper than buying a newer 4x4 but im gonna try. lol

Broken2wd, building an SAS truck is a long journey. So far, from my experience, it's been an enjoyable trip and I'm looking forward to the destination. Being able to say "I did that" when someone asks, it's the ultimate in an ego boost.
On a final note... you got it cheep..and it's payed for. That alone is a big burden off someones chest. Keep us all updated and post pictures as you go along.
