im planning on converting my 99 2wd ranger to a 4x4 sas ranger.i have a d44 out of a 78 f250, a ok 4r44e 4wd trans, and i have a exploder 8.8inch rear with drums.i want to build a 3 link front suspension,i have a 3inch lift 2wd coil installed, will that work good for front coils?if those wont work what lenght, diameter and spring rate would work best(coil)? im not looking for mad travel i just want at least 10inch of travel and good flex.also on the front d44 im planing on running a strong tube from one side to the other on the steering knuckle, i have never seen anybody use the rack and pinion for this setup is it possible to use?or will i have to install a steering box? for the rear i was planning on a 3 link with coils , were can i get some coil springs for cheap? and what diameter and length should i get? also what spring rate? im only wanting to keep it in the 6-8inch lift area and my 33s i have on now. any better ideas?

why use a 8.8 with a 3/4 ton 44? lug pattern wont match and the front will be wider

adapters, or an 8 lug 8.8 from a van.

you narow the axle to be the ranger width.and the 44 has 5x5.5 bolt pattern, get an adapter for the rear to be a 5.5 instead of 4.5

well just noticed it is 8 lugs,so ill figure it out.but the reason i'm using a 8.8 is because it has an exciter ring for the vss/abs sensor, the other ones don't and would have to fab one in.

10.25 sterling has the tone ring and is 8 lug and full floater. Better then converting the 8.8.

u gotta make up ur mind what ur doin with this truck, at first u wanted it converted to i beam shit, and long travel pre runner, now ur talkin about 4wd solid axle.....

personally....id just d/d the 99, and get a older ranger to build into a wheeler, its ALOT easier....and will cost ALOT less, and ALOT less fab work, in the end ull spend less if u get a older ranger and do the work on that then doin the work on ur 99

i was never saying i was going to do all that.just made a forum so i can feel out what i would like to do.but off roading today and almost getting stuck made me want to convert to 4wd and the easiest way is solid front axle swap.i want to use the 250 axle because its has bigger brakes and i did just do a f150 brake upgrade so i do want to stay with 12in rotors thew work great.but i dont want to use 8 lugs.and i dont need a 400 stearling axle for a 33 in tire im not so hard im my truck i need the strength.i got my truck for 1500 from a good friend and it was in xlnt condition,i just painted it,had a good freind at impulse auto make a lot of carbon fiber interion parts for free for me,and frankly i dont have enough money to buy and older ranger to customize.i just sold my powerhouse 4wd f250,and my other f350 for money.i want my dd to work both ways. but im going to do this conversion probably next year after i finish my current restoration project.

well sold my f250 front axle, didn't want the 8 lugs .is the d44 on 97 and later tj's common to find?also is the pumpkin on the pass. or drivers side?

best thing to do is buy mopar performance axles. get lockers and 410's very cost effectivly.

converting the axle you had to 5 lug would have been hella cheap too....how the hell did you not notice 8 lugs on them huge ass brakes? i like my 8 lugs...you some kind of 8 lug hater:nono:

:woot: yeah i am trying to be funny.

Only rubicons had the front D30/D44 hybrid. They are pretty expensive. You could pick a D60 up for the price of one of those.
