is it possible on a 1991 ranger ext. cab?

Yup.

The catch is you need to find a 2wd driveshaft for a 5sp truck
the auto trans 2wd '98-up supercabs have a shorter rear
driveshaft with a smaller spline.

If you have an auto it gets more complicated.
You still need to find a 5sp driveshaft, but you'll need
to swap out the front slip yoke.
